Tour itinerary
Day 1: Fes – Ifrane – Cedars Forest – Midelt – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Sahara
Our 3-day Sahara Desert tour from Fes begins with an early pick-up from your accommodation or the airport. We drive south through Imouzzer to reach Ifrane, often called the Switzerland of Morocco for its alpine-style houses, snowy winters, and clean streets. After a short stop, we continue to the Cedar Forest of Azrou, home to the playful Barbary macaques. You will have time to walk, take pictures, and even feed them if you like.
We then head towards Midelt, a city famous for its apple orchards, where we will stop for lunch. Afterward, the journey continues through the Tizi-n-Tilghmt Pass and along the Ziz River, with beautiful landscapes of valleys and palm groves.
By afternoon, we reach the Merzouga Sahara Desert. Here, you will switch to camels for an unforgettable trek across the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. A stop will be made on top of a high dune to watch the magical sunset before continuing to your luxury desert camp. In the evening, you will enjoy traditional Berber music around the campfire under a sky full of shining stars. Dinner and overnight stay in a desert camp.
Day 2: Explore Merzouga Region – Nomads – Khamlia – Palm Grove – Flamingo Lake
This day is dedicated to discovering the beauty of the Merzouga desert region. After breakfast, we begin our adventure by driving off-road to visit an old eyeliner mine, followed by a stop at the nomads’ tents. Here, you can experience their way of life and share a cup of traditional Berber tea.
Next, we continue to the village of Khamlia, where you will enjoy Gnaoua music and dance performed by locals whose ancestors came from Mali, Sudan, and Niger. Free time for lunch at a local restaurant before we take a relaxing stroll among the palm groves.
Later, we visit the seasonal Merzouga Lake (Dayet Srij), also known as the Flamingos’ Lake, where you may spot migratory birds and enjoy the peaceful scenery. After exploring, you will return to your hotel in Merzouga for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Merzouga – Rissani – Erfoud – Ziz Valley – Ifrane – Fes
On the last day, we wake up early to admire one more breathtaking sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, we ride camels back to Merzouga, where the driver will be waiting.
We then drive to Rissani, a traditional town known for its old souk, which comes alive on market days (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays). After exploring, we continue to Erfoud, famous for its fossils and marble workshops, where you can learn about this unique craft.
The drive back to Fes takes us again through the scenic Ziz Valley, with a stop for panoramic views, then across the Cedar Forest and Ifrane before reaching your accommodation or the airport in Fes.
This marks the end of your 3-day Sahara Desert tour from Fes to Merzouga, filled with cultural experiences, desert adventures, and unforgettable memories.
